An Example Draft

The draft order was pre-determined based on the order that players signed up for the campaign.  There are a total of 26 options available.  Twelve each of the starting hex and Special Abilities, plus gold and troops.

You have two different options for how you submit your draft rankings.

You can list all 26 items in the order of your choice.  This might look like this:

  1. G
  2. F
  3. E
  4. Bonus Troops
  5. Stonework Palisade
  6. Siege Master
  7. Ten Ogres
  8. Bonus Wealth
  9. D
  10. I
  11. C
  12. Warg Riders
  13. Battle Master
  14. J
  15. Slave Empire
  16. Raiders
  17. Man-Friend
  18. Goblin-Friend
  19. B
  20. A
  21. Hard Bargainer
  22. Weathermancer
  23. Elf Killers
  24. H
  25. K
  26. L

This is a player who believes in location, location, location.  He really doesn't want to get stuck with the Weathermancer or Elf Killer abilities.  Note that the auto-draft will NOT screw him over by selecting more than one starting hex.  Once he has the starting hex or special power, the rest of the selections on the list will be ignored.  So if he takes a location in the first round, the rest of the hexes are removed from his draft sheet.

The other way to submit rankings is to specify what you take in each round, with a "sublist" for each of the starting hexes and abilities.  That would look something like this:

  1. Troops
  2. Location (GFEDICJBAHKL in that order)
  3. Wealth
  4. Ability (Ranked in order of preference)
In this case, the first available hex on his list would be taken in the second round.

The GM will strictly abide by your submitted draft sheet.  This might mean that you get some terrible combinations - Goblin Friend and a starting hex on the opposite side of the map, for example.  Or lots and lots of gold and no troops to protect it!  To make matters worse, the results are completely transparent.  Other players will know what you've got, what your strengths are, and what your weaknesses are.  Plan accordingly.
